    The chapter highlights the methodological aspects of physical education on the problems of organizing and conducting physics classes in Russian universities based on the analysis of scientific and pedagogical sources, questionnaires and surveys conducted among physics teachers of technical and non-technical universities (pedagogical, medical, agricultural, etc.). The problems and emerging trends of teaching physics courses in the higher education system are identified, and methods of teaching physics are proposed that allow students to take into account the profile of their future specialty. Recommendations are given on the organization of independent work of physics students at the university and the assessment of knowledge and skills in physics.

  • The Relation between Reading Strategy Use and Reading Performance among Students

    Abstract:
    The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between the use of reading strategies and reading achievement between high and low EFL university students in Ethiopia. To this effect, sixty students were selected (30 top high achievers and 30 least low achievers) using stratified sampling technique. The Survey of Reading Strategies and Reading Comprehension Test were employed to discover students’ reading strategy use, and to measure their reading ability respectively. Thus, thirty reading strategies of the survey and fifty reading comprehension questions were administered to students. The data gathered was statistically analyzed through descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test and Pearson correlation. The findings of the study revealed that High achievers adopted a diverse and more reading strategies in higher frequency compared to low achievers. This difference between the groups was significant. The result also showed that there was a relationship between students’ three main strategies use (i.e., global, problem-solving and support reading strategies and their reading achievement). Based on the findings, it was recommended to raise awareness to enhance students' use of various strategies at higher frequency and the low achievers must be encouraged to use the reading strategies more frequently in general and global reading strategies in particular.

  • Local history organizations in the study and preservation of the native language and ethnoculture of the Chuvash in the 1920s

    Abstract:
    The establishment of the Soviet power on the territory of the Russian empire led to a new system of values, activation of the population in all fields of the social life. In the sphere of museum building in the 1920s a noticeable role was played by such public scientific and educational associations as the Society for the Study of the Local Territory in Cheboksary (1921-1931) and the Society for the Study of Chuvash Culture in Moscow (1927-1931). The main aim of the article is to reveal the history of the formation and work of these organizations. The material is presented chronologically. Having established close contacts with scientific institutions throughout Russia and with famous scientists, the local history organizations with a wide network of branches and cells promoted an in-depth study and development of the economy and culture of the Chuvash region and the spiritual culture of the Chuvash, half of whose population lived outside the territory of the autonomy. The special attention these societies paid to the development of the native language and culture of the Chuvash people that allowed the Chuvash people to realize their national identity. During the first decade of the Chuvash Soviet autonomy some successes in the formation of local lore as a science were achieved. On the territory of Chuvashia local history institutions and organizations made a significant contribution to the study of nature, economy, productive forces of the region, as well as the spiritual life of the people. In this period it was the Society for the Study of the Local Territory in Cheboksary and the Society for the Study of Chuvash Culture in Moscow that promoted the preservation and development of the Chuvash language.

    The chapter deals with the organization of the educational process in a technical university for master’s students in the discipline «Foreign language in the professional field» with the introduction of technologies of provocative pedagogy; the advantages of using these technologies in order to increase the interest of master’s students in the material being studied, the degree of assimilation of educational material, motivation and their effective interaction and compensation for the lack of a language environment have been revealed. The paper substantiates the need to use these technologies, techniques and teaching aids, depending on the level of foreign language proficiency of students; examples of tasks for the proposed technologies were given and an analysis of the effectiveness of the developed tasks was carried out.

    Abstract:
    The article deals with a vital problem of the specifics while mastering a foreign language (English) by the students studying at the training department of “Public and municipal administration”. The aim of this scientific article is to analyze the peculiarities of studying a foreign language by students of management specialties, which can allow one to explore English-language sources with a complex vocabulary and conceptual apparatus. The author of the article uses theoretical and empirical research methods. The research material is the content of professional training, while the means of education are authentic English texts of professional subjects, allowing students to master international terminological tools. The results of the research show the need to develop critical, analytical thinking among the students, in addition to mastering the general course of a foreign language (English). The scientific direction of ESAP is depicted in the article, which allows professional and language skills’ teaching in a specific disciplinary context. It can be concluded that the attention of the students studying a foreign language in the direction of preparation 'State and municipal management' should be focused on various types of analysis, such as logical, comparative, lexical and terminological, contextual ones, which, in turn, can require critical and analytical thinking development, selection of information, its processing, interpretation, as well as its adequate use.

An important point in the learning environment is that motivation is a means of increasing the effectiveness of any learning activity, which is also reflected in the study of the Kyrgyz language. We will consider various ways, techniques and methods as a means of increasing educational motivation when learning Kyrgyz language. Attention is drawn to the key phenomena of scenographic culture in the context of the director's concept of a particular master. Stylistic tendencies turn out to be important for the interpretation of the creative method of both the artist and the director as the basic criteria for creating a single artistic whole.     The work is devoted to the problem of co-learning of languages ​​and cultures in a multiethnic region. Introduction. Addressing the problem of ethnocultural education in the context of the ongoing changes in the life of society is due to reasons that require timely response and adjustments to the process of education and upbringing, especially among young people. The purpose of the study is to generalize the theoretical and practical approaches to teaching a foreign (German) language, taking into account local ethnographic material. Methods. The work represents the author's reflections on the problems of ethnocultural education. Research results. To solve the problem of filling the content of ethno-oriented education based on knowledge of the elements of everyday culture, traditional culture, linguistic picture of the world, it is necessary to include in the process of teaching a foreign language topics, issues related to the sphere of everyday life of northerners, their living conditions, family relations, rules of behavior, traditions, rituals. Conclusions. Currently, educational institutions are changing the approach to teaching foreign languages ​​towards the development of communicative and intercultural competence of students, which involves the co-learning of languages ​​and cultures of both the country of the target language and the native land. This can be facilitated by a balanced selection of the content of the «Foreign language» subject at the expense of the ethnocultural component as a reserve that forms intercultural competence for socialization in the world space.

    Faithful military fortification, founded in the middle of the XIX century in the south-eastern outskirts of the Russian Empire, was located far from the center of the state with a turbulent political and social life. At the same time in the middle of the XIX century, there is interest in the history of Russia, memoirs, internal politics and social sciences in general, that leading to the emergence of an unprecedented hitherto the number of periodicals historical themes. This article explores references to the city / Verny Fortification in the "Historical Gazette", "Notes of the Fatherland", "Russian Archive", "Niva", "Russian Gazette", "Russian Antiquity", "Russian Thought" and a number of other publications.   • A System of Ethnojournalism Assignments for Students of “Folk Art Culture” Curriculum

    Abstract:
    The “Journalism in the Ethnocultural Sphere” discipline belongs in the basic part of “Folk Art Culture” higher educational field of study curriculum, which is in the process of theoretical development and search for methodological approaches to its teaching. The article represents a development of practical assignments in this discipline. Methods. Based on the author’s own pedagogical experience in the field of teaching ethno-journalism to students of this curriculum in FSBEI of HE “Saint Petersburg State University of Film and Television”, a system of practical exercises aimed at development of general cultural and professional competencies has been developed. The assignments are divided into five topics; the students are expected to work in the field of both ethnocultural studies and journalism. For each practical lesson there are two types of assignments: analytical, which are based on a theoretical understanding of ethnocultural material (discussion questions), as well as work with mass media data, and creative tasks, which include creating journalistic texts of different genres on ethnocultural topics. It can be concluded, that the results of preparatory and classroom work with the proposed tasks suggest a successful completion of the discipline by future specialists in the field of folk art culture, as well as demonstrate their interest in ethnocultural knowledge and ethnojournalistic activity.

    The article describes the implementation of project tasks in the study of rational and irrational numbers, presents the results of a questionnaire survey of students, potential primary school teachers, while studying the numerical line in a course on mathematics. The purpose of the article is to consider the effect of supplementing a material of a numerical line with original content on motivation when teaching mathematics to students of non-mathematical profiles. Methods. A questionnaire survey was conducted on the indifferent or negative attitude of students to the study of the rational and irrational numbers theory. Using theoretical and experimental methods, the hypothesis on the formation of positive motivation among students through the solution of project tasks, the compilation and implementation of which gives them a sense of independence, freedom of choice, success, is tested. Conclusions presented in the article are based on the results of the study. Due to the implementation of project tasks, students in the study of the discipline «Mathematics» felt the usefulness of the knowledge gained and showed high marks on exams. It is concluded that the teaching of the numerical line in the course on mathematics at the university using the techniques mentioned below in the article allowed to increase the level of positive motivation among students.

The discussion concerns a reasonable application of new technologies together with traditional methods of teaching part-time students a foreign language. The aim of applying new technologies is enhancing the effectiveness of education with competence approach in marine English teaching in order to develop the competence in compliance with federal educational standards of higher education (FGOS VO) and the IMO STCW Convention (1978/95).
