- Pedagogy and Modern Education
- Abstract:
- The article presents the experience of teaching chemistry to foreign students of a medical university. To facilitate the understanding of educational material in chemistry by foreign students, the didactic potential of university lectures has been expanded. Every year, Russian universities accept citizens from more than 170 countries to study. The annual growth in the number of foreign students corresponds to the national course for further integration into the educational and scientific community of the allied states. The relevance of the study is determined by the need of Russian universities to develop educational and methodological materials in a foreign language for training programs for foreign students. The aim of this study is to facilitate the understanding of lecture material, and, as a result, to increase the effectiveness of teaching chemistry to foreign students of a medical university through the use of an English-language course of lectures in the learning process. Within this work, using the method of students questionnaire survey, a pedagogical study of the attitude of foreign students to the use of a course of chemistry lectures in English was carried out. The study involved 80 foreign students of Altai State Medical University, citizens of far abroad countries. It was found that the described course of lectures minimizes the difficulties of foreign students' perception of large amounts of educational material (97.5% of respondents), increases the efficiency of independent work (92.5%), helps to overcome the language barrier when teaching in an intermediary language (67.5%), as a result, there is a general interest of foreign students in chemistry as a science (95%), facilitating of educational material understanding and an increase in academic performance (96.2% of those who successfully passed the exam in chemistry compared to 60% of students in the control group). Thus, we came to the conclusion that the use of a developed English-language course of lectures in the teaching chemistry makes it easier for students to perceive the lecture material and improve the quality of chemistry education for foreign students.

- Abstract:
- The article discusses the designing of an elective course for Master students of non-linguistic faculties “Written communication in a foreign language for academic and professional purposes”. The course is intended for second-year Masters both in humanities and sciences. The relevance of the topic is based on the fact that nowadays more and more Russian speaking researchers make attempts to publish their papers in international journals. To cope with this challenge, Russian universities should include a course of written communication in a foreign (English) language into their curricula. The author describes the structure of the course, gives links to the sources of materials used in the learning process, shares her own experience in conducting the elective. While preparing the publication, the following methods were used: 1) a survey of research teachers from all faculties of Perm State National Research University, which revealed the written genres they use in their academic and professional activities. 2) Analysis of the available literature on business correspondence and writing research articles in English. 3) Identification and systematization of recommendations for familiarization with the peculiarities of the English-speaking communicative culture. As a result of the work done, the genres of written communication most in demand for academic and professional activities were selected, which served as the basis for creating the structure of the described course.

- Work direction:
- Глава 1
- Abstract:
- Among the main directions of Russia's transition to sustainable development is the formation of an effective system for promoting the ideas of sustainable development and the creation of an appropriate system of upbringing and education. At the heart of any civilization is education – the transfer to subsequent generations of acquired experience and knowledge, cultural and moral values. To overcome the global ecological crisis in which mankind found itself at the beginning of the 21st century, it is necessary to develop the principles of the relationship between man and nature. In this regard, education for sustainable development is of great importance. To study this problem, sociological methods were used – quantitative surveys, analysis of normative documentation, meaningful analysis of plans and reports of authorities. The results of the study showed the presence of two trends in education for sustainable development, the basis of which is environmental education at all levels of the education system in Russian society: one trend is the curtailment at the federal level, the second is attention to environmental education in certain regions of the country, especially where environmental the situation is the most difficult.

- Глава 8
- Abstract:
- The purpose of the study is to evaluate the possibilities of self-development of professional competencies of a young (novice) teacher in the process of research activities in order to enrich the natural science subject-spatial environment. The article presents the opinions of scientists E.I. Petrenko, L.V. Ignatieva about the role and place of research activity of a young teacher – a former student who graduated from a higher educational institution or a trainee student who began teaching as a student, who knows many teaching methods, has studied various scientific disciplines in his field, or a teacher who has worked for up to 5 years. In their opinion, the competence of a graduate is manifested in the willingness (motivation and personal qualities) to apply knowledge, skills and experience for successful professional or other activities in the presence of problems and resources. The creation of methodological resources begins with a bachelor student at a university and is the result of research activity of a young teacher in school. Young teacher often experiences difficulties while choosing material for "Environmental Studies" with the purpose of junior schoolers achieving different results. Scientific novelty is the idea of creating innovative methodological projects which enrich subject-spatial environment of elementary school aimed at development of natural subjects and research skills of students that took "Environmental Studies' subject. The author managed to define methodological innovations presented as guidance manual which were created while writing a diploma then were approbated under the conditions of educational space of school. "Geographer's diary", "Society city" interactive game, researcher's handbook "Way to health", "Briefcase museum" call for analyzing of different topics of scientific topic, creation of which requires research competence of a teacher. Hedging in a Research Article
Review ArticleDevelopment of education Volume 5 No 1- Author:
- Irina V. Kochkareva
- Work direction:
- Дискуссия
- Abstract:
- The article focuses on linguistic hedging which helps avoid sounding arrogant or too certain of what you state in a research article. The relevance of the theme is based on the fact that nowadays the increasing number of Russian-speaking authors make attempts to publish their research articles in international journals. Writing research papers in the English language should follow some rules adopted in the English communicative culture. One of such rules is using hedging as a means of criticism mitigation and a “saving face” strategy. As hedging is not generally used in the Russian scientific discourse it is necessary to teach Russian scholars to apply hedging techniques in their writing. The aim of the article is to investigate the essence of hedging through analysis of sources written both in English and in Russian. The methods used include examination of Russian and English research papers, their comparative analysis, summing up recommendations on hedging in scientific discourse. As a result, the main lexical means of hedging are pointed out. A conclusion is made on necessity to include teaching linguistic hedging into courses of written academic communication for master degree students and postgraduates.

Learning to Write Titles for Research Articles
Research ArticleDevelopment of education Volume 4 No 4- Author:
- Irina V. Kochkareva
- Work direction:
- Practice
- Abstract:
- The article discusses the basic guidelines for writing titles of articles intended for publication in scientific journals. The relevance of the topic touched upon in this article is due to the fact that currently teachers are faced with the need to train master degree students at both linguistic and non-linguistic faculties to write scientific articles in English. The title is a very important part of the article, since it presents in a concise form the main information about the content of the publication. A well-formulated title can interest the reader and make him or her eager to read the article. On the contrary, titles which are too complicated to understand, cumbersome, and vague are unlikely to attract attention and arouse the interest of a potential reader. The aim of the study is to provide an overview of guidelines for writing titles that can be found in the English-language literature. The author also analyzes the typical mistakes that Russian-speaking authors make when writing titles of articles in English. Research methods include analysis, description, observation, comparison. The results of the study showed that the most common causes of errors in the formulation of titles are linguistic interference and ignorance of the peculiarities of the English-speaking communicative culture related to written communication in the scientific field. It is concluded that the course «Written academic communication in English» should be included in the Master course program, which will familiarize students with the main features of scientific articles in English and teach future authors to correctly formulate the titles of their publications.

- Устная история: методологические поиски и новые методы исследований
- Abstract:
- In recent years, there has been a boom in the study of history using oral narratives in both Chinese and foreign historiography. Oral history, as a form of historical research, has played a unique role in promoting the popularization of historical knowledge among the public, and in the late 1970s Chinese historians began to study oral history. Over the next three decades, the study of oral history has expanded and deepened, and it has developed into a branch of the historical discipline. History is a discipline with a long tradition, and one that is constantly being updated as human society evolves. Each era has its own historiography, and each era has a different style and philosophy from its predecessors. Modern oral history, as a new form of historiography, inherits traditional historiography, but has developed its own unique characteristics in terms of research philosophy and methodology, and its most distinctive feature is its breakthrough and expansion of traditional historiography in many ways. This is mainly manifested in the extending of the object of research in oral history, the significant increase in the content of research, and the move from a single means of research to multiple forms of research.
