- Abstract:
- This article examines agnonyms of English origin in modern Russian. This layer of borrowings is often unclear or obscure to most people, and can therefore cause communication breakdowns. As a result of such errors, communication partners become acutely aware of differences in education, upbringing, communication experience, and worldview. The study's material includes examples from shared news chats on instant messengers, announcements on information panels on public transportation and other public spaces in Perm, and television broadcasts. The selected material was also used in associative experiments. Respondents represented different age groups. General scientific research methods were used in the study—descriptive, comparative, survey, and questionnaire. Particular attention was paid to the problem of partial agnonymy, in which the speaker believes they understand the meaning of a lexical unit, but in fact uses it incorrectly. During the analysis, the main factors influencing the semantic adaptation of Anglicisms in the lexicon of a linguistic personality, as well as methods for preventing agnonymic errors, were identified.
